Sometimes WordPress is the wrong tool. When you're building an actual application — dashboards, real-time features, authenticated experiences, or a marketing site that has to be blisteringly fast — Next.js and React are what we reach for.

When Next.js is the right call

You're building an app, not just a website — dashboards, complex forms, real-time updates, authenticated experiences. You need best-possible page speed (Next.js consistently ships faster than WordPress for equivalent complexity). You have engineers on your team who prefer React. You want type safety across the whole stack.

Our stack

Next.js 15+ with App Router. TypeScript everywhere. Tailwind CSS. Server components by default, client components where needed. Prisma or Drizzle for database. NextAuth or Clerk for auth. Deployed to Vercel for the easy path, or self-hosted on a VPS with PM2 + nginx for cost control on high-traffic sites.

What we DON'T do

We don't use Next.js for a simple business website that would be faster to ship in WordPress. We don't deploy to Vercel and let you get surprised by a $2,000 monthly bill — we'll cost out self-hosting on a $20/mo VPS as an alternative. We don't architect for scale you don't need yet.

When Next.js beats WordPress

You're building an app, not a brochure — complex forms, live updates, logged-in experiences. You need the fastest possible page speed. Your team already speaks React. Or you want type safety end to end. In those cases Next.js consistently ships faster and cleaner than forcing WordPress to do a job it wasn't designed for.

Our stack, and why

Next.js with the App Router, TypeScript everywhere, Tailwind for styling, server components by default and client components only where needed. Prisma or Drizzle for the database, NextAuth or Clerk for auth. It's a modern, boring-in-a-good-way stack chosen for maintainability, not novelty.

Deployed without the surprise bill

Vercel is the easy path and we use it when it fits — but we've seen the surprise thousand-dollar invoices. For high-traffic sites we'll cost out self-hosting on a twenty-dollar-a-month VPS with PM2 and nginx instead. Same performance, a fraction of the bill. We architect for the scale you actually have, not the scale a pitch deck imagines.

FAQ

Questions people ask about next.js / react

Should I use Next.js or WordPress?

If it's a content site or blog, WordPress is faster and cheaper to ship. If it's an app, a dashboard, or needs top-tier performance and interactivity, Next.js is the right call. We'll tell you honestly which one fits.

Do I have to host on Vercel?

No. Vercel is convenient but can get expensive at scale. We'll deploy to a self-hosted VPS instead when that's better economics, with the same performance.

Can Next.js still have a CMS my team can edit?

Yes — that's our headless setup: a CMS your team edits, a Next.js front-end for speed. Best of both worlds.

Is TypeScript necessary?

For anything beyond trivial, yes — it catches whole categories of bugs before they ship and makes the code far easier to maintain. We use it by default.
